The Section Chief at the West Los Angeles Dental Clinic will serve as the Supervisor in the Dental Service and reports directly to the Chief of Dental Service, Greater Los Angeles Health Service. The duties include general dental procedures and interacts with staff of within the facility or at other VA's, VA Office of Dentistry, affiliated institutions and Veterans. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification. ~AND~ Completed an approved residency program in general practice or advanced general dentistry in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently has a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Dental Staff Requirements: Section Chief / Lead Dentist: Dentists in these roles must demonstrate effectiveness coordinating and managing interdisciplinary collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders to optimize the care of patients under their preview. GLAHCS Dental Officer shall hold the following minimum qualifications: Has completed an American Dental Association approved one or two-year dental general practice residency. Basic Life Support Certification Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification is required if conscious sedation is performed. Physical Requirements: Physical demands include repetitive body movements including the following: frequent reaching, standing, walking, and lifting of equipment and/or patients to provide patient care. This position requires extension of the hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction including above or below shoulder level, during the provision of patient care, including retrieval of needed equipment, supplies and to make contact with the patient. This position requires the maintenance of an upright position to perform duties associated with patient care. This position is typically non-sedentary, and frequently involves being in the standing position. This position requires moving about accomplish tasks, such as assisting with patient ambulation and moving one patient area to the next. This position requires the raising of objects from a lower position to a higher position or the movement of objects horizontally position to position.
