This position is located in Dental Service, at the Veterans Health System of the Ozarks. The primary purpose of this position is to function as a fully qualified and experienced dental laboratory technician. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/22/2022. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-07) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: use of dental laboratory material such as impression materials, plasters, stones, hydrocolloids, waxes, metals, acrylics, porcelain, and similar materials, the use of laboratory equipment such as hand tools, dental lathes, engines, and hand pieces, furnaces, casting machines, presses, flasks, and related equipment, the use of precision instruments such as articulators, surveyors, and microanalyzers, and construction of dental prosthetic appliances. OR, Education: Successfully completed one and one half (1-1/2) years of graduate education in a degree program directly related to the work of this position. NOTE: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one year of full-time study; if that number cannot be obtained from the transcript, 18 semester hours will be considered as one full academic year of graduate study. Physical Requirements: The work involves periods of sitting and standing. It involves the use of various dental lab machines. Extensive and detailed use of the hands is required. ["As a Dental Laboratory Technician, you will: Develop and fabricate dental prosthesis for patients to restore the mouth to proper occlusion to aid in mastication, enhance speech and improve facial esthetics, and restore oral anatomy lost as the result of surgery or trauma. Participate with the staff dentists and consultant specialists in the design of complex intra-oral dental prosthesis and fabricates or constructs them. Fabricate complete dentures which includes impression pouring, articulation, setting teeth, reglazing and recontouring, actual fabrication, adjusting occlusion and finishing for insertion into the patient's mouth. Fabricates simple and complex partial dentures which includes surveying casts, participating in design, clasp construction and all other steps involved in actual fabrication and finishing. Maintain an adequate inventory of lab materials such as gold, teeth, acrylic, and audits use. Fabricate hard and soft nightguards.
