The primary mission of the Dental Department of the VA Dublin Health Care System (VHADUB) is to provide comprehensive, appropriate and effective oral health care, essential to veterans' medical needs as delineated in statute, in an atmosphere which promotes continuous improvement in the quality of that care. The Chief of the Dental Service of the VA Dublin Health Care System is responsible for defining the vision, mission and scope of the Service and assuring effective performance of Service functions in support of the mission, vision and goals of the Department of Veterans Affairs, VISN 7, and the VA Dublin Health Care System (VHADUB). Consistent with these responsibilities, the Chief of the Dental Service either directly or indirectly supervises the performance of all staff privileged and/or employed in the Service at all clinical sites and reports directly to the Chief of Staff, VHADUB. In the course of fulfilling his/her role, the Chief of the Dental Service also interacts with staff of other services, Chiefs of Dental Services at other VA' s, staff of the VA Office of Dentistry, with representatives of affiliated institutions, professional organizations, and veterans' groups, and with individual veterans. KEY FUNCTIONS Integrating the Service into the primary functions of the VHADUB. Coordinating and integrating interdepartmental and intradepartmental services. Developing and implementing policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services. Recommending a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care/services. Determining the qualifications and competence of Service personnel who provide patient care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners. Continuously assessing and improving the performance of care and services provided. Maintaining quality control programs, as appropriate. Orienting and providing in-service training and continuing education of all persons in the Service in collaboration with staff of other services. Recommending staffing, space, equipment and other resources needed by the Service Participating in the selection of sources for needed services not provided by the Service or the VHADUB. Adopting and enforcing rules and regulations concerning patients' /residents' health care and safety, as well as the protection of their personal and property rights. Designating a person to act in his/her absence so that administrative direction is provided at all times Establishing and implementing patient/resident care policies, personnel policies, and other policies of the Service and VHADUB. Evaluating and implementing, as feasible, any recommendations from VHADUB committees and consultants. Maintaining ongoing liaison with the governing body, with other clinical staff, and with administrative staff through regularly scheduled meetings and periodic reports. Providing direct patient care consistent with his/her clinical privileges. Providing guidance to staff in meeting assigned monitors: Oral Exam Monitor; Fluoride use Monitor; Medically compelling Patient Monitor. ??Assuming responsibility for: all clinically related activities of the Service ????; all administratively related activities of the Service???????; continuing assessment of the professional performance of all individuals who have delineated clinical privileges???????; recommending to the medical staff the criteria for and scope of clinical privileges recommending clinical privileges for each privileged member of the service Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm Financial Disclosure Report: Not required ???????
