The Dental Assistant assists the dentist in aspects of patient care and performs other clinical and clerical functions independently of direct supervision. Duties include but are not limited to the following: The incumbent sets up operatory for planned dental procedure and cleans dental unit for timely turnover and assists with all phases of general dentistry and specialty procedures including oral surgery, periodontal therapy, endodontic, prosthodontic and implant placement and restoration; anticipates dentists needs at each stage of treatment; selects and manipulates a variety of gypsums and waxes; pours, trims and evaluates the quality of diagnostic casts; fabricates custom trays. He/she accomplishes all intra-operative procedures within standard infection control protocols. The Dental Assistant secures digital and other clinical images, as ordered by attending house staff. Images are characterized by diagnostic quality, accurately oriented and exposed Dental imaging safety techniques are utilized. He/she assists Dentist in charting findings and treatment plans in patient records. The incumbent monitors patient condition during treatment, being alert for signs of physical distress. He/she assists with removal of sutures, takes impressions for diagnostic casts and preliminary impressions for prosthetic fabrication, removal of temporary crowns/bridges and cleans tooth preparation of debris, etc. Work Schedule: 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
