Work in a newly constructed practice dedicated to pediatric dentistry. Staffing includes two Pediatric Dentists, Dental Hygienist, Expanded Function Dental Assistants, and a fully staffed front office operation. The Pediatric Dentist Practice is a part of Keystone Dental Care with five general dentists and comparable support staff. In conduction with the Dental Director, responsible for the daily clinical operations of Keystone Dental Pediatrics. Implements the following disciplines of a pediatric dentistry practice as established by the (ADA) American Dental Association: diagnosis; periodontics; fixed and removable prosthodontics; endodontics, i.e. root canals; oral surgery; restorative and preventive dentistry, i.e. crowns, providing services of pediatric patients. Collaborates with the Dental Director when advice or second opinions are necessary for diagnosis and treatment. Performs duties under the supervision of the Dental Director.
Advises the Dental Director on issues regarding the clinical services.
Helps to develop and monitor the Dental Health Care Plan and meets regularly with the Dental Director to ensure input on clinical activities.
Responsible for the ongoing clinical quality assurance issues.
Responds and assists with any dental emergencies that occur.
Conducts a comprehensive dental assessment of all patients.
Documents patient’s examination.
Performs dental examination.
Documents appropriate patient/family medical history information.
Evaluates patients’ intraoral and peri-oral hard and soft tissue condition; including caries, endodontic/periodontal pathology, soft tissue and developmental pathology.
Establishes a dental diagnosis for common short-term, emergency situations (e.g., toothaches, broken teeth/restorations, dislodged crown/bridges, etc), and chronic dental problems and develops an appropriate treatment plan.
Orders, performs, and interprets x-ray results.
Evaluates patient presentation and determines diagnosis. Reaches an informed diagnosis based on scientific knowledge and individual medical history.
Assesses dental limitations of the pediatric patient and plans care to incorporate these needs; provides referrals as appropriate.
Provides preventative, endodontic, periodontal, restorative, surgical, prosthetic and follow up care.
Refers out complex Endodontic, Surgical and Periodontal treatment. Performs and completes the remaining portion of treatment plan. Typically, all or nearly the entire pediatric treatment plan should be done "in house".
Proficiently performs amalgam and composite restorations, stainless steel crowns, space maintainers, crowns, single and multiple canal endodontic therapy, extraction of erupted teeth and roots and simple surgical procedures, prophylaxis, periodontal scaling & root planning.
May provide pediatric dentistry without Nitrous Oxide. This will include preventative, restorative and surgical care on cooperative children. Space maintainers and removable single tooth movement appliances should be planned and performed as necessary.
Supervises assigned/designated dental assistants.
Provides professional consultation to other staff dentists when needed.
Treats primary and secondary teeth and constructs and places bridges, dentures, and obturating appliances suitable for growing arches.
Takes dental impressions and administer preparation of crowns and/or implants.
Takes X-Rays of impacted teeth and determine their condition and appropriate treatment.
Counsels and advises patients and family on growth and development dental problems of patient.
Instructs patient and family members on dental care.
Provides preventive services through use of fluorides and sealants.
Recommends regular hygiene appointments for re-occurring patients.
Documents and follows treatment plans that include appropriate preventive and restorative therapy.
Manages medical/dental history with a comprehensive evaluation of the patient's general health.
Addresses all contra-indications pertaining to treatment and identify patient's chief complaint or reason for visit.
Maintains the baseline radiographs and any other radiographs necessary to diagnose and treatment plan the case.
Prescribes medication (in agreement with and approved by the State Licensing Board).
Refers patients to appropriate licensed community agencies, services, and providers as necessary to meet home care needs or other expertise required.
Seeking a Pediatric Dentist for a FQHC practice open Monday through Friday. Compensation program offers a RVU production program in addition to competitive base pay plus sign-on bonus. Graduate from ADA accredited school of dentistry. Two years’ experience in the practice of dentistry preferred. Advanced training in pediatric dentistry required. Licensed to practice dentistry in the State of Pennsylvania; Current DEA. Maintains current CPR and PALS certifications.
